Ever wondered how many blowholes a humpback whale has?
They have 2 blowholes on the top of their head which are actually the whale's nostril. Unlike us,
the whale cannot breathe through their mouth.
Their blowholes are covered by muscular flaps that keep water from entering them while underwater.
The warm mist lung air is mainly expelled from the blowholes as a cloud of condensation. It is this cloud of condensation that today helps us spot whales and in the old whaling days, lead to the famous… "Thar she blows." This amazing photo was captured on board the MV Eye Spy.
